LOW BACK Letter #1: subject line: 5 LIES About Back Pain!

Back Pain Hi. Dr. Chris Tomshack here, the founder of HealthSource.
 And about those 5 LIES I mentioned in my online letter—they really ARE dangerous.
 They can keep you frustrated, hurting, and exhausted forever.

  OK, here’s the first secret…and a little disclaimer. Since I’m not right there with you, I’ll give you my best “distance” strategies. But if anything hurts—STOP—and call us at xxx xxx xxxx.  So here we go—and don’t dismiss this first “trick” because it’s so simple. It’s called the Pelvic Rock—and I’m NOT talking about wiggling like pelvis-Elvis. No, this one is done slowly, lying on your back on the floor (carpet preferable), with your thigh straight up, your knee bent at 90° and the back of your calf lying on a chair or couch—parallel to the floor.
 OK, now GENTLY flatten the small of your back against the carpet—and I said gently!! You’ll feel your stomach muscles working as you flatten. If doing so is pain-free, hold for a count of 3, then relax. Repeat 5 times and rest for a couple minutes. Then do it again a few hours later.
 Too simple? Don’t scoff. There are a lot of VERY complex processes going on here. You’ve just positioned your vertebra, discs, nerves and muscles for optimal stress relief. This allows better blood flow and removal of nasty inflammatory chemicals. It also starts activating your abs (the “six-pack” muscles) which are critical for low back health. You may not experience a miracle, but you’ll probably notice a little less tension—that you’re not so stiff—that the ache isn’t quite as bad. And one more thing…
 DO NOT USE HEAT! I’ll answer the BIG questions about heat and cold in the tomorrow’s letter. For now, just try the simple Pelvic Rock—gently—a few times a day. Most people start getting some relief, but of course, it’s just one part of the treatments we use in our offices—a stepping stone to our famous spine balancing and strengthening exercises.
