NECK Letter #1: subject line: 5 LIES About Neck Pain!
Hi. This is Dr. Chris Tomshack, the founder of HealthSource.
About those 5 LIES I mentioned in my online letter—they really ARE dangerous. They can keep you frustrated, hurting, and exhausted forever.
That’s why it’s so important to use tried-and-true methods that have worked for decades—and COMBINE them with modern discoveries like we do at HealthSource. OK, here’s the first secret…and a little disclaimer. Since I’m not right there with you, I can only give you my best “distance” strategies. So if anything hurts—STOP! There may be something serious going on. And you can click this link, www. Xxxxxx , and be directed to your closest HealthSource doctor.
So here we go—and don’t dismiss this first strategy because it so simple. It’s called the Neck-Towel-Trick and you just lie on your back on the carpet, with a nice, fat, soft towel, rolled up at the base of your neck. It should feel comfortable but also push very lightly up into your neck.
OK, now GENTLY tip your head back about a half inch and hold it for 3 seconds. Then tuck your chin about a half inch—gently—and hold for 3 seconds. If nothing hurts, then turn your head just a little to the right and do the same tipping up and tipping down. You’ll feel a few muscles working as you do this. If it’s still comfortable, hold each position for a count of 3, then relax. Repeat 3 times and rest for a couple minutes. Then do the same thing but turning to the left. Over the next few days you can go a little further when you tip up and down—and when you rotate to the left and right. Just be patient and gentle.
Too simple? Don’t scoff. There are a lot of VERY complex processes going on here. You’ve just positioned your vertebra, discs, nerves and muscles for optimal stress relief. This allows better blood flow and removal of nasty inflammatory chemicals.
It also starts activating the neck joints and starts balancing muscles while the curve of your spine is in the right position (the curve is critical for neck health—that’s why we take x-rays at your complimentary Community Screening—to see if your curve is right). You may not experience a miracle, but you’ll probably notice a little less tension—that you’re not so stiff—that the ache isn’t quite as bad. And one more thing…
DO NOT USE HEAT! I’ll answer the BIG questions about heat and cold in the next letter. For now, just try the simple Neck-Towel-Trick—gently—a few times a day. Most people start getting some relief, but of course, it’s just one part of the treatments we use in our offices—a stepping stone to our famous spine balancing and strengthening exercises.
