Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Machines
Non-surgical spinal decompression is treatment using a computerized machine that is designed to decompress the intervertebral discs of the spine to provide pain relief and facilitate healing in the spine for those who have been afflicted with chronic back and neck pain.
The technology behind spinal decompression represents the next generation of the old traction machines, but these new devices contain a feedback system that can respond if the patient should experience a spasm while they are in the machine. The machine can sense the spasm and slow down the decompression.
There are several different models of non-surgical spinal decompression machines available, but in this article we are going to look at the Vax-D, the DRX 9000 and the Accu-Spina.
Vax-D or Vertebral Axial Decompression -
The Vax-D or, vertebral Axial Decompression machine, was developed by Dr. Allan E. Dyer, a former Deputy Minister of Health in Ontario, Canada. He also patented the process known as vertebral decompression.
According to the Vax-D official website, “Vax-D is the only medical device that delivers treatment with the patented logarithmic decompression curve.” This device is described as being a non-invasive treatment for various kinds of chronic back and neck pain.
DRX 9000 -
The DRX 9000 spinal decompression machine is an adjustable therapeutic table that incorporates computer technology to administer the non-surgical spinal decompression therapy. It relieves the compression on the structures of the back and neck to provide pain relief and healing for herniated discs, degenerative disc disease and facet syndrome. The computer monitors and adjusts the decompression forces according to your body’s reactions to the treatments.
The Accu-Spina -
The Accu Spina machine provides IDD therapy, which is Intervertebral Differential Dynamics therapy, a non-surgical treatment for low back and neck pain. This device works by isolating a particular disc and gently separating the vertebrae surrounding the injured disc, creating negative pressure or a vacuum within the disc. This vacuum allows oxygen, fluids and nutrients to flow into the intervertebral disc helping it to heal itself and relieving the patient’s pain.
The Patient’s Experience During Spinal Decompression -
The spinal decompression treatment process typically takes a series of 10 or more sessions that is daily at first and then spread out over a few days, depending on the severity of the case. The patient lies on a padded table where they are strapped in during treatment. Many patients find the therapy so comfortable that they often fall asleep during the treatments.
Depending on the nature of the condition, patients may also receive instruction in some exercises that they can do at home to develop strength and tone the muscles and ligaments that support the back and neck in order to prevent future injury and support the treatment program.
Spinal decompression therapy has been effective in treating many back and neck pain conditions. When back surgery seems to be the only option remaining, decompression is a good alternative treatment option. It’s non-invasive, painless and has had a favorable success rate with patients and doctors.
Spinal decompression is not 100% effective, however. A proper diagnosis is required before patients undergo this procedure.
