Chiropractic can have a powerful impact. My first experience with chiropractic came after many years watching my grandma struggle with lower back pain. She tried every form of treatment from medications and shots to full blown surgery with no relief. When chiropractic treatment was introduced, her whole world changed. From that moment, I was inspired to study Chiropractic. I attended Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN and moved back to Sioux Falls to start my career. After several successful years, I decided that it was time that I return to my roots and follow my heart to Brookings. From attending high school at Sioux Valley to getting my undergraduate degree from South Dakota State University, I have always felt like Brookings was my home. Now, each day when I wake up, I’m more excited than ever before. Not only do I get to help improve the patient experience but I get to do it serving the Brookings community. Away from the clinic, you’ll find me spending time with my wife Angela and our beautiful daughter, Avery. You may even catch me hunting or fishing from time to time.

I grew up on a farm and ranch near Cresbard, SD. After graduating high school in Redfield, SD, I decided to attend South Dakota State University where I earned a degree in Athletic Training. During my time at SDSU, I worked with the football, wrestling, and track and field teams helping numerous athletes recover from injuries. While in college, I suffered from chronic back pain and intermittent back spasms. At the time, I had just accepted that back pain and back spasms were something I would have to deal with for the rest of my life. After graduating from SDSU with an Athletic Training degree, I received a job offer from HealthSource Chiropractic of Brookings as a Rehab Specialist. Before working at HealthSource, I had never gotten adjusted regularly. In fact, I had only been to a chiropractor a handful of times in my life. It was not until I started getting adjusted regularly while working at HealthSource of Brookings that I realized back PAIN IS NOT NORMAL. That is my motto and the main reason I became a chiropractor. Being able to see the power of chiropractic not only personally, but also with every patient I worked with motivated me to go back to school at Northwestern Health Sciences University to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. Now I am back in Brookings ready to serve this great community and help people get back to doing what they love to do.

After years with another chiropractor, I found myself stuck in a cycle of neck and back pain that just wasn’t improving. I was going to multiple appointments, but we weren’t making progress, and the frustration on both sides was growing. My pain kept rotating between the same 2–3 spots, and eventually I stopped going altogether. I felt helpless and honestly a little defeated.

After months of dealing with constant discomfort, I finally decided I couldn’t take it anymore and wanted to give Dr. Justin at HealthSource a chance to see if he had any ideas.

From my very first appointment, I was genuinely impressed. The office is welcoming, and the staff is kind, professional, and truly caring. After only a couple of visits, everyone greeted me by name. Dr. Justin was attentive, knowledgeable, and you could immediately tell he genuinely cared and wanted to help.

He took the time to explain everything in a way that made me feel informed, comfortable, and heard. Together, we set up an adjustment plan as well as a rehab plan — and the stretches and exercises have been such an important part of my progress.
A few weeks into my plan, I started having some acid reflux issues and mentioned it to him. He didn’t brush it off; instead, he made a few additional adjustments each visit to help address the new problem.

I am so thankful to have found Dr. Justin and his team. The difference they’ve made is incredible — I now have little to no pain and much better movement. I finally feel like myself again.
